On March 5th, 2006, there took place a ground-breaking ceremony for the "Palm Monorail" at the Atlantis Hotel complex on The Palm Jumeirah situated in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It marks the beginning of the construction of this monorail line by the Marubeni Corporation. The monorail trains and the necessary mechanical and electrical facilities and systems will be designed and supplied by the Hitachi Company of Japan.
This monorail line will connect the Gateway Station at the trunk of The Palm Jumeirah with the Atlantis Station on the crescent with two intermediate stations. The "Palm Monorail" is expected to begin public service in the year 2008.

Am 5. März 2006 fand auf dem riesigen Areal des Atlantis Hotels auf The Palm Jumeirah im Persischen Golf vor der Küste Dubais, Vereinigte Arabische Emirate, die Baueröffnungsfeier für die "Palm Monorail" statt. Diese Feier markierte für die Marubeni Corporation den Baubeginn dieser Einschienenbahn-Strecke. Die Monorail-Züge und die nötigen mechanischen und elektrischen Anlagen und Systeme werden von der Hitachi Company of Japan entwickelt und geliefert.
Die Einschienenbahn-Strecke wird die Gateway Station am "Palemstamm-Anfang" der palemförmigen Kunstinsel Palm Jumeirah mit der Atlantis Station am äußeren Bogen der "Palmenwedel" verbinden. Es wird zwei Zwischenhaltestellen auf dieser Strecke geben. Die "Palm Monorail" soll im Jahre 2008 in Betrieb gehen.

From a historic point of view it is interesting to note the excerpts from the speeches (see above article) of the dignitaries speaking at the ground-breaking ceremonies. When they describe the vision of The Palm and the other island projects there ring echoes of the visions of the Alweg monorail's initiator and financier Axel L. Wenner-Gren (see The Vision page of The Alweg Archives.) So perhaps it is not surprising that the Atlantis Hotel has a magnificent counterpart, the Atlantis Hotel complex on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. During the 1930s Axel L. Wenner-Gren had purchased large parts of Hog Island in the Bahamas and had soon begun to develop it into Paradise Island with luxurious resorts.

Aus historischer Sicht ist es interessant, Ausschnitte aus den Reden (siehe obigen Artikel) der Würdenträger genau zu beachten. Dort, wo diese die Vision von "The Palm" und den anderen Inselprojekten beschreiben, klingen Echoes jener Visionen an, die einst der Initiator und Finanzier der Alweg-Einschienenbahn artikulierte (siehe die englischsprachige Vision Seite der Alweg Archives). So überrascht es vielleicht nicht, dass das Atlantis Hotel ein herrliches Gegenstück hat: den Atlantis Hotel-Komplex auf Paradise Island in den Bahamas. Während der 1930er Jahre hatte Axel L. Wenner-Gren große Teile von Hog Island der Bahamas gekauft und begann bald, diese mit Luxuriösen Resorts in Paradise Island zu verwandeln.

The artist who created the wonderful images above mistakenly included as monorail older monorail trains as used by Disney World. These of course do not represent the modern Hitachi units designated for Dubai.
Der Künstler, der die obigen herrlichen Zeichnungen schuf, bildete irrtümlich ältere Einschienenbahn-Züge ab, wie sie in Disney World eingesetzt werden. Diese sind natürlich nicht repräsentativ für die modernen Hitachi-Einheiten, die für Dubai vorgesehen sind.
